The driving force behind Claire’s is its appeal to the “tweens,†which consists of ages 8-12. This often untapped market is the cash cow that keeps Claire’s sales numbers off the charts.
Claire’s seemingly has little to no interest in developing clothing, shoes, or outwear but instead continually markets and sells contemporary accessories to not only the 8-12 range but also appeals to the entire female spectrum of potential buyers.
Another draw for Claire’s is its aggressive price point, which typically includes plenty of clearance items, weekly sales and a lot of buy-one-get-one free promotions. Claire’s also has partnered with major licensing players such as Barbie, Disney and Hello Kitty and thus produce everything from earrings to necklaces with those famous logos adorned on them. Because Claire’s appeals solely to females, a quick glimpse at the web site or a trip to a physical location also shows plenty of shots of such heartthrobs as Justin Bieber, One Direction and Justin Timberlake.
From a customer service standpoint, Claire’s ranks as one of the best. The associates are extremely friendly and the store even offers services such as ear piercing to further adhere to customer needs. Of course, it also makes a world of sense to offer ear piercing when a primary sales item is earrings.
A big chunk of Claire’s sales occur during holidays and special events (i.e. school dances and prom). The Claire’s brand heavily promotes accessories that compliment dresses for the aforementioned events. Christmas and Halloween also are big-time revenue generators for Claire’s.
Claire’s hard work and perseverance in developing unique items puts this company at the top of the food chain. Affordable, quality products, coupled with great customer service, Claire’s has earned the right to focus solely on its accessories.
