There is a company called Genuardi's that has quite a story to tell of determination and ideology that began back during the times of the roaring twenties. This company, located in Southeast Pennsylvania near Philly, began delivering foods that they grew to their neighbors in a horse and buggy. They were able to increase their delivery route thanks to Ford and the production of the Model T, and even though they expanded their product lines over the next 8 decades, they kept food distribution as the cornerstone of their business. If you have ever been to a mall lately and had a bite at the food court, then you should know this idea originated with Genuardi's. This company expanded their business by 1954 to provide the first supermarket in the United States, and by 1990 had one of the most respected supermarket chains in the entire Delaware Valley. Safeway eventually purchased their distribution business, but Genuardi's continues to operate 40 stores under their original name.
