Hewlett-Packard commonly called HP is an American multinational information technology corporation, and is one of the world's largest information technology companies, operating in almost every country in the world. The company specializes in the development and manufacturer of computing, data storage, and networking hardware, and designing software and delivering services. Its major product lines includes personal computers, enterprise servers, storage devices as well as a huge range of printers and imaging device. HP markets it product line to households, small and large businesses alike. HP was the first IT company in history to report revenues exceeding $100 billion.
Major company changes include a spinoff of Agilent Technologies in 1999, a merger with Compaq in 2002, and the acquisition of EDS in 2008 which led to a Fortune 500 ranking of #9 and revenues of $118 billion in 2009.
On April 28, 2010, Palm Inc. and Hewlett-Packard announced that HP would be acquiring Palm for $1.2 billion in cash and debt. In the months leading up to the purchase it was rumored that Palm would be acquired by HTC, Dell, RIM or HP. The addition of brings HP a library of valuable patents as well as the mobile operating platform known as webOS.
