There is a company that thinks that the most important memories in the world belong to you, and they have put together an organization called ScanCafe. This company began as a result of one of the founders heading to Switzerland to attend his grandfather's funeral, and he found that his grandfather have left behind precious archives of prints, slides, and negatives. There was no real easy solution for sharing these treasures with the extended family, and he volunteered to scan all of these old photographs into digital format for sharing them around the planet. What sounded like an easy task became a nightmare for this young engineer, and after days and days of scanning, choosing resolutions, cropping, rotating and correcting color, he realized that this was not going to be something that he could achieve with the tools he had available at the time.
