What does Bass Beer and hotel accommodations at Staybridge possibly have in common? The answer can only be found by going all the way back to 1777 when a beer began being brewed called Bass. A couple of hundred years later, this beer brewing company acquired several others in the brewery business and by 1967, they became one of the largest brewers and pub owners in the entire United Kingdom. Leave it to the government to screw up a good thing as the Beer Orders legislation was passed limiting the number of pubs that brewers could own. While decreasing its provision of pubs, this company began investing in a hotel organization that had international operations. As Bass targeted only larger pubs and grew this side of the business, they also acquired a Restaurant chain named Harvester in 1995. When Bass decided to get out of the midscale hotel business as this company continued to make smart business decisions, they moved on to create the upscale Staybridge Suites by Holiday Inn.
