Succinct writing melds nicely with hard-hitting journalism and expertly written features that define the quality and aptitude of USA Today. But perhaps their most remarkable characteristic of USA Today is perseverance. USA Today has managed to maintain its popularity and place in the market as a viable newspaper, despite the inclusion of technology that is determined to make print a thing of the past. One big reason USA Today has been able to stand its ground is its weekend edition, which is filled with feature stories in all realms: money, features, movies and sports. The movies section is especially popular as the weekend typically sees new release hitting theatres nationwide. Even USA Today isn’t opposed totally to technological advances. USA Today, not surprisingly, has one of the more remarkable apps for smart phones and tablets. The success of the app is partially due to the fact that the content and display mirror the iconic design of the actual newspaper. USA Today also is incredible informative and boasts a plethora of great content. Somehow, despite those characteristics, USA Today still manages to not create a web site, app or newspaper that comes across as too “busy.” One big downfall of major media outlets is trying to cram 20 stories into a spot only designed for five. USA Today has its major headlines bullet-pointed and shuffles through features and other quirky stories and headlines. Again, USA Today deals in simplicity with how the web site is laid out. Beyond the aforementioned bulleted items, USA Today includes a picture and brief headline with subsequent stories; sounds simple, but often the easiest ideas are overlooked. But USA Today doesn’t miss much. Whether it is an edgy opinion, flare for a fantastic news story or enough entertainment to rival an issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, USA Today is at the top of its game with no clear-cut competition poised to know them off their perch.
